Trainee Club Journalist
An exciting opportunity to gain first-hand experience in sports media! Join our media team to create engaging content, manage socials, and develop key industry skills
JOB PURPOSE
- Write articles for the Club website and matchday programme to preview and review first-team matches.
- Increase the coverage of Luton Town's Academy with regular match previews, reports and engaging articles for club website, app and matchday programme.
- Contribute new and creative ideas to help increase the profile of the Luton Town Community Trust, covering events when required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Day-to-day creation and publishing of articles across all of the Club’s website and app, with a particular focus on the Academy.
- Write first-team match previews for publishing on the Club website and app, attending first-team matches when possible.
- Attend fixtures to cover Luton Town Academy games for official Club channels
- Ensure Academy content aligns with the Club’s overall branding, tone, and style, following guidance and direction from the Head of Press & Communications.
- Interview players and coaches for pre and post-match content/articles.
- Attend Luton Town Community Trust events when required and write reports for website, app and matchday programme.
MAIN JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PERSON SPECIFICATION
- A strong passion for football and storytelling, with a keen interest in sports journalism.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clearly, accurately, and engagingly.
- Basic experience in writing match reports, news articles, or features (university work, student media, or personal blog).
- Strong attention to detail and an understanding of spelling, grammar, and journalistic tone.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and handle fast-paced, time-sensitive content such as match reports or breaking news.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks or deadlines.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and matchdays as required.
- Proactive attitude and willingness to learn within a professional football club environment.
